After graduating from high school, he then tried college in college, he was then accepted in the department of Forestry at the University of Gajah Mada. There he studied very industriously about the wood, its processing technology and its utilization until he came to be known as the Furniture Boss.

Jokowi finished his lecture in 1985, then married Iriana Jokowi on December 24, 1986 in Solo which later became three children named Gibran Rakabuming, Kaesang Pangarep and Kahiyang Ayu.

Jokowi later that year also started working at State-owned Paper Company owned by PT. Kraft Aceh, but there he felt uncomfortable choosing to resign and try to do wood business in Solo while awaiting the birth of a child.
